No. 8 in the Light Coming in Through Cracks Series, 2018-2021.
Un-manipulated, naturally-oxidized (rusted), used/discarded metal Found Object, on painted salvaged cotton sailcloth with cotton and synthetic wool on plywood. 24” x 24” x 2.5”.
Wahe Guru is Sanskrit, and means, in the most simplest of terms, praise what brings us from darkness to light. I named this piece Wahe Guru because its unaltered, found form reminds me of an Indian temple, or like something you would see in a place like Marrakesh. It also reminds me of the few years I was doing Kundalini Yoga, a rare form of yoga and mediation. “Wahe Guru” was one of my favorite chants. Of course this was before the U.S. founder of Kundalini Yoga was accused of sexual misconduct by his earliest female students in the 60’s (and my local community turned a blind eye to it!)
