'5. Waves'

$7,000.00

No. 5 in the Light Coming in Through Cracks Series, 2018-2021.

Un-manipulated, naturally-oxidized (rusted), used/discarded metal Found Object—a Corona bottle cap, on painted salvaged cotton sailcloth with cotton and synthetic wool on plywood. 24” x 24” x 2.5”.

This pieces sums up my entire life when I lived in Imperial Beach, California. Drinking Coronas with salt and lime after hours of surfing. For the record, I notice all bottle caps and collect many of them, but not all bottle caps make the cut, as it were. This one made the collection for very specific reasons. It’s perfectly balanced. This way it is smashed from one angle only gives it a perfect accordion feel. I also love the blue. The navy and white combination gives it an unexpected, almost regal feel. It also looks like—or reminds me of—waves on the Pacific Ocean. I also get a kick out of the unruly orange of the rust and how it compliments the navy blue. Leave feedback.
