'2. Pipestone'

$7,000.00

No. 2 in the Light Coming in Through Cracks Series, 2018-2021.

Un-manipulated, naturally-oxidized (rusted), used/discarded metal Found Object—likely a crushed can, on painted salvaged cotton sailcloth with cotton and synthetic wool on plywood. 24” x 24” x 2.5”.

This piece started this whole series and I can’t even take credit for finding it. Yes, this entire series was the gift on an angel. Or so it seems. A friend of mine found it lying in the small rocks and cacti-encrusted alpine desert fields near the location of its name. He found it but I was the one who decided to hold onto it and, over the course of two years, build an entire series out of it. I was taken by the delicacy of the metal. How paper thin it is. How, over time and weather, one of the strongest things in the known world—metal—can become so fragile and precious. This piece was found somewhere near the Continental Divide in south central Montana.
