'1. Humble Beginnings' (Copy)
No. 1 in the Light Coming in Through Cracks Series, 2018-2021.
Un-manipulated, naturally-oxidized (rusted), used/discarded metal Found Object—possibly an industrial staple, on painted salvaged cotton sailcloth with cotton and synthetic wool on plywood. 24” x 24” x 2.5”.
I’m not really sure why I call this one Humble Beginnings. Not to be confused with, as my son would say, Humble Begendings. You see, there’s a beginning and a begending. But I digress. I’m not sure why I call this one Humble Beginnings, but I do. Maybe because the shape and form of the found object is so plain. So simple. I believe it is some sort of industrial staple, but we can’t be sure. I love how the rust coats the heavy duty wire so thickly, almost bubbling up. I love the contrast in value between thin and thick, substantial and insignificant. That’s what I see. Tell me what you see. Leave feedback.
